charm: it's been a while...

i am officially dying from the workload in law school.

ok, maybe i'm exaggerating a bit, but honestly, the group research project i'm currently working on now, is a hell of a killer. it's like squeezing PW in jc into three weeks. there's an oral presentation that's supposed to take up 30 minutes (think oral presentation for PW), a research binder filled with research from case law, treatises, secondary sources, and the like (think group project file for PW), and the tutors have given us 2-day timeslots to prepare for minor presentations for texts/treatises, cases, and secondary sources (like articles), expecting us to churn out 1) good material that's relevant to our hypothetical case, and 2) an effective presentation complete with visual aids (think powerpoint presentatations), and 3) answer questions pertaining to our research material.

AHHHHHHH!!!

i find myself spending all my time after school in the library attempting to search for cases through the legal encyclopaedias (and most of the time, the copies i'm looking for always vanish when i want them), photocopying -- very stringent rules about the end-products -- no black edges, cannot have two-page prints nada nada nada. and i've missed hell loads of meals these days. guess the only consolation is prolly what i saw on the weighing scale this morning. -chuckles-

and after my submissions, exams are in two weeks, and i'll need to start working on my final essay for SLS (singapore legal system) -- which i seriously dread, cos it's basically a subject for people with great knowledge of international politics and massive general knowledge, and for people like me (read: politically apathetic -- NOT GOOD!), i am just so dead. then come the exams. hopefully torts will still be more or less manageable (considering that i managed to scrape a B for my mid-term test!), but contract is going to be hell. apparently it's closed book, and we only have like, statutes? -dies- gonna have a hell truckload of things to study.

ah that's it for my ranting. phew. hope you guys are doing ok! :)

Frond Ferny - The Best Birthday Ever...

Whee! HAPPEEE BIRTHDAEEE TO MEEEEEEE! I'm 19! NINETEEN. Good god, I'll be TWENTY next year. That's sooo fast! Well, my day started at 12 midnight actually. Dad and Mum wished me a Happy Birthday. Then Jia Lin, Alwin and Andrew followed cuz we were chatting. Then, a whole lot of others like Kor, Nathanael, Meixi, Julia, Vina, Sharon and even Auntie Gan. Jenni from JTPS (wow! That was like so long ago, wished me a Happy Birthday through Friendster. Jean from Zenitant did too.) Ming Xian sent me an email and Jasmine sent me a card from Singapore. Charmaine just did as I'm typing this now hahhaa. Aldy just did too! And Chipz just did as I'm editting it the 2nd time. Am posting photos.

My birthday actually started on the 13th when I received a parcel from Kor. After calling him in the morning and chatting to him about the present awhile, I opened it after I came home from school. So sweet! The card almost made me cry. Then on Wednesday, I received a card from Jasmine. *grin* Then! Andrew told me that Jia Lin and him were going to take me to a cheese restaurant on Saturday for my birthday. I freaked out immediately because I'm deathly INTOLERANT of cheese. It gives me horrible diarrhoea. Experienced it when I went out with Charmaine to eat at Marche for the first time. Had diarrhoea within the hour. =S I didn't wanna disappoint them so I just kinda kept quiet. The next day, Alwin, Jia Lin and me were having brekky at Sir Walter's so I told Alwin they were taking me to a cheese restaurant for my birthday. Jia Lin said, "Well, I think it's psychological so we're gonna help you overcome it for your 19th birthday." I got slightly angry so I didn't say anything. During dinner that day, I told Aunty Laura about it and she told me that it's not that I'm lactose intolerant because I can take dairy products. It's because cheese is made from the fat in the milk. It's the fat that I can't digest and that gives me diarrhoea. I told Andrew about it that night. Then he admitted to the prank. Pfft. Then I told him I had been worrying the whole day lol. He apologised for causing me distress. He didn't realise it would make me freak out so much lol. Wha! How can I not when I know I was probably going to spend the next entire week on the toilet seat hahaha!

Today, I got up at 9.50am where Aunty Laura and Uncle Soo Poh wished me a happy birthday and they got me a little present. It's a little Koala pencil case and a card. Haa, I can use that case on Thursdays when I've got only 1 class. Then Ben came over, wished me happy birthday and we all went to lunch at Northbridge Chinese Restaurant. The food wasn't as good as last time. Bleah. After lunch, we came home and they got out a cake for me from Miss Maud's. Cut the cake and we ate a little. Msged Alwin and told him he could come around 1pm. He came around 1.35pm and we went to Cockburn Ice Arena. Had to find my footing initially cuz I haven't skated since 2004 I think. Alwin said for someone who's only skated 4 times prior, I was actually quite good haha. That's some consolation. Haha, I had tons of fun! Whee! I think I wanna take it up haha. I kept grabbing his arm when someone was almost going to crash into me. The kids in the rink were really cute. The way they stopped was exactly how I used to stop. They would skate towards the side wall and crash right into it thereby stopping. However, when they crashed into the wall, they would flip because the force was a little too great. Alwin taught me the t-brake which was to place one foot behind the other and stopping.

After ice skating, we went to Macs for tea. I ate 6 nuggets, 1/2 an apple pie and some fries. Kor called at 3.39pm apparently. I was still in the rink and my phone was in my bag. Called him as I was entering Macs. He wished me happy birthday and said that he would give me a treat when I got home. That's 2 already. Earlier, Kelvin promised me one. Mum and Dad told me just now they would give me another when I get home. Gawd, I'm gonna get so fat. Hehe. Then got home and showered. Found a present sitting on top of my lappy and I asked Aunty Laura who put it there. She told me Ben did. Wow! I definitely wasn't expecting a present from him. He wished me happy birthday yesterday and Aunty Laura said, "It's 21st! Not 20th!" And he was like, "You said 20th!" Hehehe. Then he said, "Well, I take that back. Just as well, I didn't get you a present." Lol.

Alwin msged me, telling me that he would be me up first then go to SV to pick Andrew and Jia Lin up. Apparently, it was wrong. It was the other way round. He keeps getting the 2 of us mixed up! We went to Dusit Thai on James St in the city for dinner. The food was really good! Must go back haha. Then we went home. Jia Lin was telling me in the car just now that her flatmates are falling ill one by one so she wanted to get some panadol from the pharmacy in case she got a fever too. I told her not to waste her money. I had some remaining so after we finished dinner, they told me they would be fetching me home first. Upon reaching home, Jia Lin and me got out of the car and got into the house. I locked the gate. Jia Lin was like, "Why you lock the gate?" I said, "I'm paranoid. Later some burglar rob the house." Hehee. Apparently, she didn't want it locked because Andrew and Alwin would be coming in with the cake. Hahaha! Went into my room and got the panadol. Talked about it awhile lol. Jia Lin was talking like really loudly haha. I thought she was high or something but she wanted to hide the fact that Aunty Laura had to open the door for the guys to come in. Went into the kitchen. Andrew apparently thought the candles he got were 24 candles but there were only 12 so Aunty Laura got somemore and they placed 19 candles on the cake. The cake is an Apple Crisp Jia Lin baked. It's nice! =D We sat there eating, talking and laughing. Jia Lin made us laugh so hard about this story she told us about her dad cutting her hair for her when she was young. Just hysterical man. Andrew and Jia Lin got me an extra present too. 2 shirts they bought. They're really nice but I'll need to wear a spaghetti top below it or something because one of them is quite low cut. Haha. Conservative me. ;) Yea, basically that's it. Here's a 'list' of my gifts (and those coming? Muahaha).
Aunty Laura and Uncle Soo Poh - Card + Koala pencil case
Aunty Laura - Lunch
Ben - Body Shop pack with Vanilla soap, bath gel, lotion, a towel, a candle.
Alwin - Ice Skating (paid for my entrance and skate rental. =) )
Andrew and Jia Lin - 2 shirts
Andrew, Jia Lin, Alwin - Dinner
Kor - Sent it to me in a parcel which arrived on Wednesday. *grin* A Tazmanian Devil with sunglasses sitting on a Director's Chair he bought from Movie World in Gold Coast and 2 DVDs: In Search of Mozart and The Truth Behind Killer Dinosaurs. Wow! He remembered I liked dinos!
Mum and Dad - Birthday treat and violin
Kelvin - Treat

Well, that's about all I suppose. Enjoy the photos. This was definitely the best birthday I ever had. The only regret I had about today was that I wished Mum, Dad and Kor were here with me during lunch. It was definitely better than last year. I mean, I never had friends who would bake a cake for me and even go through so much effort to get it into the house (by means of a distractor - Jia Lin! hehe) and let us enjoy the cake there. So touching! For some reason, I'm not too good at expressing profound thanks verbally. Sigh. Love them so much man. *grin* That's all I guess. Take care all! Tata!

Frond Ferny - An afternoon in the garden

Not a bad day's harvest eh? *grinz* 3 tubs of Snow Peas and 3 strawberries. I actually picked 6 but I gave 3 to the chooks because they were already soft. =D

Frond Ferny - Perth Royal Show 2006

Ahhh! Am feeling so excited! Just came back from the royal show. So fun! Haha. Let's recap. Andrew and Jialin came to the house at around 2.45pm to pick me up. Drove to the showgrounds. Parked at John's house cuz he kindly offered to let us park in his driveway. Walked into the showgrounds and saw tons of things. Wanted to go onto the bumper cars but we decided to walk first so we walked and walked. Went into the sheep area and touched a Marino sheep. They SMELL. Then CK called Jialin and told her they'd reached. It took a hell long time for us to meet up because there were like 4-5 bumper car stations! We did in the end and we decided to go on a ride. We decided on the ride that's like the Viking boats but it spins you 360deg. Haha, I was screaming my lungs off. I got lifted off my seat when we were upside down cuz I wasn't strapped down tight enough. Closed my eyes a couple of times with Jialin yelling beside me, "FERN! OPEN YOUR EYES!!!" Finished the ride. They were all fine. My legs were jelly and I was stumbling abit after the ride and they were like, "Eh, you ok anot?" Hahaha. Didn't get to ride the roller coaster. Darn. They said it was chicken. Grrrr. At least give me something I can tolerate and scream man! I personally think it's the thalessaemia that causes me to get giddy on rides that spin you round. Being upside down for a couple of seconds plus a few more times ain't peachy.

After the ride, we went for early dinner. 5.30pm. After dinner, walked around, looked for my showbag. We looked in a hell lot of places before finding it haha. I actually only got it because of the bags. There's a little shoulder bag, which I can use to put passport etc when I go home end of this year and a zebra sling bag which isn't too big and isn't too big. Very teen-girly! Then we went to the Japan Pavilion to see ASIMO (the most humanoid robot Honda has ever made) but they were only allowing little kids in because it was too full. DISCRIMINATION! I'm a kid toooooo!! *whines* Then, I saw the Animal Nursery and I naturally wanted to go in. Andrew followed as well. Jialin and gang, not realising we were missing from the pack, went on walking. Good god! In the nursery, saw ducklings, chicks, calf, lambs, donkey, piglets etc. There was also a Brahman bull. He was HUGE but he was like quiet and docile. Me thinks he's tired. There was also a sow with her piglets. She was sleeping though and the piglets were like at another corner. There was also a snake section. Andrew was looking at them and I walked towards him and I saw the snake. I turned tail immediately haha. Earlier, Jialin tried to scare me with a rubber snake and it worked muaaha. She was at a stall and I was walking towards the stall. I darted behind Andrew immediately and yelled at her, "Don't do that!" Hehe.

After we left the nursery, called Jialin and managed to catch up with them. They were at this soft toy shop because everything was at half price. Being a soft toy fan, I WANTED to buy something. I bought a small little dog and a green dragon which I named Snuffles. Andrew thinks her teeth are weird. *laughs* We then went to the Main Arena to wait for fireworks. It was C.O.L.D. The wind was blowing. I had 3 layers on and I was still shivering like mad. They had the Holden Stormriders doing tricks. It was wayyy cool. The Holden Stormriders drove vehicles that were like 350 horsepower! The first part was like a Holden sheepdog thing. There were 9 horses and 4 Holdens. The 9 horses had to round the Holdens up, much like a sheepdog does. Very nice! Then Jialin and Eugene complained of the cold so they went to walk around. I called Jialin after awhile and she didn't pick up so we all laughed and said she'd gone dating. *chuckles* They came before the fireworks started. When they started, I originally used my camera to take photos. Then I decided to videotape the fireworks. Laid down on Jialin's legs to take because they were high up and I was already shvering so badly, the best way was to lie down and take. The video did end up slightly jerky because I was shivering like C.R.A.Z.Y. The fireworks were marvellous but I was viewing them through my camera's LCD screen hehehe. They're much nicer than Singapore's National Day Parade fireworks man! They were in 2 sections and I captured them using my camera. 1st one's 1min 42secs. 2nd one was 9mins 11secs. When the fireworks were over, everyone cheered really loudly. We went our separate ways because CK and gang were taking the train home. As for us, we went to play somemore games because I wanted my big toy. *grin* Came upon this stall where you bought a slip of paper with 5 slots on it. Each slot had a number. If one of your numbers had a winning number, you got any of the BIG TOYS they had. I bought 2 tickets. First one drew nothing. DARN. Opened the first 4 slots of the second one...all NOTHING. I was praying, "Please please let the last one be something!" VOILA! Number 81. Winning number! WHEEEE! I happily went up there to pick my prize. Homer Simpson, which I had been seeing around for the entire day, sat there for me to pick but I somehow ended up picking a red dragon instead. Told them later the red dragon was a papa for Snuffles. *grin*Again, Andrew said his teeth looked weird.

After winning papa dragon (I still don't have a name for him yet) and me is satisfied, we decided to go for supper cuz we were hungry. Really hungry. Went to City Garden Chinese Restaurant which is famous for porridge. Their porridge was nice! We also ordered sizzling deep fried beancurd with chilli and salt and a plate of kailan cooked with garlic. It wasn't kailan anyway, don't know what it was. We finished the food and feeling bloated, we drove home. I drove home. *grin* Here I am, blogging haha! Here are a few photos! Some photos of the royal show, 1 of the stuff I got including what I won and the papa dragon. Had to take him separately. He wouldn't fit into the other photo. Let's see. I won a small black dog from the first game, drew blanks for 2. No. 3 was a 'fishing' game. You fished out a fish and the number on the fish would be your prize. I got 3 so I got this Freddy Flintstone toy. I think that's what he's called. This game also came with a chicken hat. *laugh* Bought dog and Snuffles. Won papa dragon. Yep!
